Description

Offered once again is this fabulous D'Pergo Aged Vintage Classic, serial number 0226, which was built as a custom order in 2006 and updated with a new neck in December of 2015. The gentleman who purchased this guitar some months ago loved the instrument, but was so concerned about it's cost that he could not enjoy playing it. I was thrilled at the opportunity to buy it back, as I've received numerous inquiries about the availability of this particular guitar from folks who missed it when it was for sale previously.

The body of this gorgeous guitar is made from lightweight Alder giving the instrument a total weight of just 7.4 pounds. It is superbly finished in Vintage White nitrocellulose lacquer.

The neck on this guitar was built by Stefan in late 2015 to replace the original which he felt was as too thin and not up to his current high standards. A new certificate of authenticity and spec sheet were issued at the time the new neck was built and installed on this guitar.
The new neck is made from a single piece of Certified Primary Growth Recovered Maple, a hallmark build element of D’Pergo Custom Guitars. The neck shape is D'Pergo's Vintage Offset shape, with a depth of .935" at the first fret. This offset profile is carved in a concentric fashion that follows the natural contours of the human hand as it moves up the fingerboard, thereby allowing the player to more easily navigate a larger neck than would be typically comfortable. Its natural shape fits even a small hand like a glove. The neck is finished in super-smooth satin nitro lacquer.

The luscious looking and feeling fretboard is made of 1980's era Brazilian Rosewood. It has a 10" radius and has been given a played in feel where the fingerboard meets the neck. The optional Signature frets (a $2K upgrade) are made from custom medium/wide nickel/silver wire. The 1.650" nut is hand-carved from vintage bone.

The pickups are D'Pergo's hand-wound, aged vintage single-coils. The wiring setup is as you would expect on an S-style instrument; a five-way switch, volume and two tone controls.

As a D'Pergo, this guitar's acoustic resonance and touch-sensitivity are evident after playing just a few notes without amplification. The guitar's lightweight, great balance and the hand-finished contours of the body and neck make it nearly effortless to play. The incredible Signature grade fretwork will spoil you for most any other instrument. The setup is low and buzz free, with the twelfth fret string heights of 6/64" for the low E and 5/64" for the high E. This guitar feels and plays like the extraordinary instrument that it is.

These photos are newly taken. This instrument remains in very good cosmetic condition. It has a few hard to find finish flaws around the edge of the body (see photo), but the overall look is superb and the frets are near new and spotless. It comes with its original D'Pergo/G&G hard-shell case, the updated Certificate of Authenticity and spec sheet. A fabulous S-style guitar at a price not often seen for a D'Pergo, particularly one with a Rosewood fretboard.
