Description

Offered is this incredible D'Pergo Semi-hollow Aged Bakersfield, serial number 0257, which was built as a custom order in 2008. This instrument was created from a single piece of ultra-light weight recovered Alder that is cut into three sections and then chambered with large cylinder shape openings added throughout the body. The guitar has a total weight of just 6.4 pounds. It is stunningly finished in Metallic Las Vegas Gold nitrocellulose lacquer. The neck is made from a single piece of Certified Primary Growth Recovered Maple, a D’Pergo hallmark. The neck shape is D'Pergo's Vintage Offset shape, with a depth of .920" at the first fret. This offset profile is carved in a concentric fashion that follows the natural contours of the human hand as it moves up the fingerboard, thereby allowing the player to more easily navigate a larger neck than would be typically comfortable. Its natural shape fits even a small hand like a glove. The fretboard radius is 10" and has been given a played in feel where the fingerboard meets the neck. The frets are made from custom medium/wide nickel/silver wire with D'Pergo's Vintage Bevel shaping. The 1.650" nut is made from vintage bone and is in of itself, a work of art. The pickups are D'Pergo's hand-wound, aged Alnico V low output 50’style, along with a three-way switch, 250k CTS pots and custom .047 cap.

As a D'Pergo, this guitar's acoustic resonance and touch-sensitivity is the first thing you notice upon playing a few notes without amplification. The guitar's lightweight, great balance and the hand-finished contours of the body and neck make it nearly effortless to play. The amazing fretwork will spoil you for most any other instrument. The setup is low and buzz free, with the twelfth fret string heights of 6/64" for the low E and 5/64" for the high E. This guitar feels and plays like the extraordinary instrument that it is.

This Alder / Maple instruments tone is warm with lots of high-end twang, The semi hollow body is made up of large chambers that give the guitar a huge sound with a tight bottom end along with a touch of natural compression. You know you are playing a Tele-style instrument, but one with the harmonic complexity of a D'Pergo.

This instrument is in very good cosmetic condition. It has a few hard to find finish flaws from playing (see photo), but the overall look is superb and the frets show little to no wear. It comes with its original D'Pergo/G&G hard-shell case, Certificate of Authenticity and spec sheet. A superb example of a boutique brand rarely found on the secondary market....
