Summary: The Cortez or the FT-45 Cortez continued an earlier Epiphone model after Gibson purchased Epiphone in 1957. The Cortez featured Mahogany back and sides and was available with a natural or sunburst top finish. As the Epiphone Texan was similar to the Gibson J-45, the Cortez was similar to the B-25. This particular Cortez has a beautiful sunburst top with lots of finish checking or “crazing”, has 2 repaired top cracks and a repair on the back of the neck which has finish touch up. It comes with an excellent sounding vintage DeArmond sound-hole pickup, has just been set up and restrung and ships in its original grey hard-shell case.

Body: Small bodies, sloped shoulder dreadnought guitar with sunburst spruce top, 3 ply w/b/w top binding, one ply back binding, mahogany back and sides, tortoise pickguard and lots of finish checking.

Neck: The mahogany neck has a rosewood fingerboard, 24 1/2” scale length and 1 9/16” nut width.

Pickups/Hardware: It has a vintage DeArmond sound-hole pickup, endpin output jack, original plastic bridge with adjustable saddle and the original 3 on a plate Kluson Deluxe tuning machines with white buttons.

Cosmetics: This guitar has 2 long top cracks which have been structurally repaired. A repair of some kind has likely been done to the neck but has been oversprayed with a dark finish so it is hidden. There is a notable dent in the neck on the bottom side by the 6th fret, some dents and dings around the edges of the headstock, lots of finish checking on the body, various dents and dings on the body and a few scratches in the lacquer on the back.

Playability: Our in house luthier has just inspected, set up and restrung this guitar with a new set of 12s and it is playing beautifully with low action and a straight neck. The frets are in great shape and have just been dressed.

Modifications: Vintage De’Armond sound-hole pickup, endpin jack, crack repairs on top, overspray on the back of the neck.

Weight: 4 lbs, 9 oz.

Case: This Epiphone comes with its original grey hard-shell case with blue interior and we will ship it professionally packed and fully insured!
