Description

When Gibson acquired the Epiphone Company in 1958, they also acquired the rights to Gibson’s designs—and initially many of Gibson’s Kalamazoo craftsmen. Thus even after Epiphone production left Kalamazoo, Epiphone still sells almost identical versions of many iconic Gibson models, such as the “John Lennon” J-160CE. Originally introduced in 1937, the Gibson J-200 style set a standard for guitar excellence that others have been trying to match ever since. Today—over 75 years later—the legacy of the “King of the Flat-tops” lives on in the Epiphone EJ-200CE. The EJ-200 style is simply the world’s most famous acoustic guitar, known equally for its majestic look and focused sound.

When the J-200 was first introduced, it immediately filled a need for a deeper, more balanced and powerful acoustic instrument that could project over stage and radio. The J-200 was a radical new design, bigger and bolder than any previous guitar, capable of projecting well beyond that of any other acoustic on the market—a fact that still holds true today with the EJ-200CE.

Virtually every great rhythm guitarist and singer of the last century made the J-200 their primary acoustic instrument on stage (and for record covers, too) including Don Everly, Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Presley, Gram Parsons, Buddy Holly, and Pete Townshend. The EJ-200CE gives you everything great from this historic guitar without the headaches or the price tag of an original. Unequalled projection and great low end is available with great upper-fret access too!

This 2009 EJ-200CE features a nice cutaway integrated into the legendary Super Jumbo body, with a Maple body with Select Spruce top, inlaid Rosewood fretboard and unmistakable inlaid 'mustache' bridge. It features body, neck, and headstock binding, gold Grover hardware, and a set maple neck with a crown inlay on a rosewood fingerboard. Other features include a nut width of 1.68" and a 25.5" scale.

While what I assume is the original Shadow pre-amp does not seem to be live, the added pickup works fine. There is some slight pick wear on the pick guard, a small chip on the corner of the headstock, and a bit of buckle rash, but on the whole this guitar is structurally and cosmetically in very good shape. The action is remarkably fast and comfortable at a bit less than 3/32” at the 12th fret low E.

Buyer pays a flat rate of $55 for insurance and shipping to the lower 48 states; shipping costs elsewhere will be negotiated as necessary. Payment by Paypal is preferred; cashier’s checks are acceptable, but checks must clear before the guitar will be shipped.

I have made every effort to describe and illustrate this guitar with scrupulous accuracy. Its return will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing. Please check out the pictures and ask any questions you might have before offering to buy it.

Thank you for your interest in this cool guitar.

Payments by Paypal, cashier’s checks, money orders, or personal checks are acceptable, but all payments must clear my bank before the guitar will be shipped. I will CONSIDER reasonable offers, even including installment payments and trade-ins, but generally since I already attempt to price my guitars very competitively, unusual deals must be unusually sweet.

From henceforth [that's how retired English teachers talk], insurance and shipping to the lower 48 states is $55 due to constantly rising shipping costs unless a specific listing says otherwise; shipping costs elsewhere will be negotiated as necessary. I have sold guitars to Russia, Japan, Australia, and over 50 other countries, as well as almost every state in the USA. Since some of my guitars travel thousands of miles, I take care to use lots of packing materials, protect the neck inside the case, and of course de-tune the strings.

I make every effort to describe and illustrate each guitar and case with scrupulous accuracy. However, many of my instruments are well-played vintage items which are many years old, and I am not a luthier. One should assume that any guitar will require some set-up to satisfy your personal requirements, and that not every flaw or ding will be seen/recognized/described in the listing. Thus the return of an instrument will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing. Please read the listing carefully, check out the pictures, and ask any questions you might have before offering to buy.
