Summary: The Epiphone Texan FT-79 is an earlier Epiphone guitar, an answer to the brand's '40s flattops. Right after Gibson bought Epiphone in '57, the company redesigned those '40s flattops to incorporate some of the design elements of the Gibson J-45, like a sloped shoulder and a shorter scale length, giving birth to what they eventually renamed the Texan. This mahogany-bodied, spruce-topped dreadnought was made famous by none other than Paul McCartney, and can be heard on the recording of "Yesterday." The Texan has also been used by the likes of Kurt Cobain, Ben Gibbard, Noel Gallagher, and Peter Frampton. This particular guitar serial # dates it to 1965 or 1968……

Body: Acoustic sloped shoulder / dreadnought style guitar. This guitar has a solid spruce top with mahogany back & sides. The top & back on this guitar are fully bound.

Neck: Mahogany neck with the original Kluson-Deluxe tuning keys & the classic Epiphone logo. This instrument has a rosewood fingerboard with block inlays, 20 frets, 1.56” nut width & a scale length of 25.25”. The frets are in good shape & have a ton of life left in them.

Pickups/Hardware: No electronics, original Kluson-Deluxe chrome tuning keys (3-in-line on a side). Rosewood replacement bridge with original adjustable saddle.

Cosmetics: This vintage Epiphone does have a few small dings on the top and the guitar is developing some cool checking throughout the guitar. The bridge on this guitar does have a slight amount of lift in the center, however, the bridge is still solid & we don’t think it is getting any worse since we have had the guitar. There is a small place on the body near the strap button pin that shows some scuffing or wear that may be the result of a guitar strap in the case for too long….Overall this guitar shows wear & tear that is consistent with a guitar from the 1960’s.

Playability: This awesome guitar plays great – the instrument doesn’t buzz & the notes all play up & down the fingerboard. The action is low & we have had this guitar set up with 12’s by our in-house luthier.

Weight: 4 lbs, 7 oz.

Case: This guitar comes with an old school chipboard case that is black with red interior….
