This is a rare find from the late 20ies. A highend „D“ .version of the Epiphone Recording-series which happened to be not very successfull. Ment as an answer to the quite successfull Martin and Gibson – products of that time , especially the high-end versions of this model are hard to find these days. You may think that this Recording D is only a kind of show off but your definitely wrong. Beeing a combination of a small-body and an archtop guitar, it produces a surprisingly loud and remarkeably balanced tone for its size, crisp and articulate, yet with a full bass. Although this Recording D is equipped with a short 12fret neck , a wide cutaway gives the player room for every possible movement on the fretboard. The C-shaped neck is wide and and a joy to play. This guitar , with its - for those days - unusual form and construction , a feather-light maple body , with an arched laminated back and a carved spruce top is pleasantly combined with the rich ornamentation of the “D”-Version Recording. The condition of this guitar is what I would call "very good" to "excellent", too good for the campfire but for sure appropriate for the stage. It is said the main reason for the failure of this Epiphone model in the late 20ies was , that it would not cut through a big-band. Anyway, It is in fact loud enough for the soloist.
