This Epiphone Sheraton was made in the USA in 1959, but it wasn't purchased until December 2, 1961, at a small store in Fremont Nebraska called Matcha Musical Instruments. On that date the original owner traded in another Epiphone toward the $565 sale price. He paid the balance over the next few months. He also paid to have a Bigsby installed.
We know all of this because it says so on the original receipt that is still in the case. The Bigsby was still on it when we acquired this guitar, but as it was a B6 Bigsby and there were no holes or marks on the front of the guitar we decided to reinstall the original Frequensator type tailpiece. The Bigsby will come with the guitar, along with the original hang tag.
This first year Epiphone Sheraton has all of the earliest features including the "leftover" Epiphone 5 piece neck with a wonderful V profile, New York pickups, and a no-wire abr-1. It shows some light play wear but there is no damage and this guitar was very well cared for. Aside from the Bigsby, this guitar was never modified, and that only caused a few screw holes by the strap button that are not visible under frequensator tailpiece.
According to the Epiphone production numbers, 47 of these shipped in 1959, and another 13 that were likely made in 1959 shipped in 1960, bringing the total to just 60. It is hard to imagine a nicer example still exists.
The original case is included.
