Here's a 1965 Epiphone Wilshire built in Kalamazoo MI. The asymmetrical, double cutaway, solid body Wilshire with rounded edges was first introduced in 1959. It is finished in a nice cherry red that is unfaded with time. The serial number, 323317, is engraved on the back of the headstock. The body and set neck are both mahogany. It has an unbound Brazilian rosewood fretboard with ten dot inlays and 22 jumbo frets. The neck scale is 24 3/4" and it has a 1 5/8" wide nut. The guitar weighs just 7 pounds. The body is 13" wide at the lower bout and is 1 3/8" deep and contoured on the back. Silkscreened on the black headstock is the gold Epiphone logo. There are two chrome mini humbuckers with black plastic rings. The 1/4" jack is set between the two volume and two tone control knobs mounted on the three ply asymmetric white pickguard. The black amp style knobs have reflective tops with red pointers. Other features include six on a plate Kluson Deluxe tuners with metal buttons, a two ply black truss rod cover, Maestro Vibrola with original sticker, three way selector switch on the upper right bout, and a Gibson AFR1 bridge with metal saddles. The original mini humbuckers have the black label on the back with the patent No. 2,737,842. All electronics appear to original. Two of the pots have the readable code 1346517 indicating they were made during the 17th week of 1965 and the other two pots look the same but have pot codes are partially obscured. The switch and 02Z50V capacitor look original. The truss rod is fully functioning. There were a couple of small cracks at the heel of the neck which our luthier, Portland Fret Works, professionally repaired and touched up. It is structurally completely sound. There is overall weather checking to the finish and a few dings and one scratch on the top near the pickguard. However, given the age of the Wilshire it is in remarkable condition. The spoon vibrato bar and attachment are missing. The original frets have very little wear and are in great shape. It's a light, well balanced guitar with a comfortable mid sized neck. The action is low and fast. It has a nice top end. The tone is quite unique. It comes with a new black Epiphone hardshell case with plush gray lining.
