We tried our best to date this bass but can find no exacting way to do so. There is no serial number (neck plate may have been changed?) nor pot dates that we can identify. The only things that lead us to believe it was made by the 48th Street crew are the ESP stamps on the neck heel and in the pocket and the ESP logo stamped into the back of the headstock. If any of you ESP guys have any info or suggestions concerning this bass, we surely welcome them!
This bass has a great tone- the twin active EMGs pack a huge punch and the neck is smooth and sleek. Very reminiscent of a Jazz bass neck. The controls are neck pickup volume, bridge pickup volume, treble, and bass. The weight is 9 lbs, 15 oz, so it's very manageable and pretty easy on the back (my '72 Jazz bass weighs the same as this bass and I'm not having any problems at 57.)
Now I know the bass looks like a Playboy model in the pictures, but there are literally a quintillion surface scratches on this instrument. They are just from being played over the years and we all know that when a bass looks like it's been on a thousand stages, there's a reason for it. There was also no case with this one, so we ordered up a brand-new Fender F405 padded gigbag and now she's as snug as a bug.
Questions, requests, and comments are always welcome here- thanks for stopping by!
