Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Bassman head and matching 2x12 speaker cab in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp features a 100% original and untouched circuit, complete with a matched set of vintage RCA tubes! For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that's perfect for guitar or bass. It's a simple and pure vintage Fender "piggyback" head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use.

The AB165 circuit is untouched, with all of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps in the preamp which are integral to the sweet and musical character of Fender's Blackface era preamps. The stock CTS pots date to late 1965, while the chassis stamp puts the amp at early '66. At the heart of the circuit are the original transformers, which were made by Schumacher (output transformer) and Better Coil & Transformer Co. (power transformer), Fender's two suppliers for these parts in the Blackface era. The tubes are a complete matched set of vintage RCAs, and the 6L6 power tubes have been properly biased for optimal headroom and life.

On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present with a "P" prefix date stamp which translates to 1966. It's also worth noting that while the tube chart says this amp features the AA165 circuit, in actuality the circuit is the slightly later AB165, as it is extremely common to see AA charts in AB amps given the transitional and brief nature of the AA circuit.

The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of Fender-labeled Oxford 12T6 speakers which are era-correct for this amp and match factory spec, but were installed later and date to '69. Oxfords provide a very balanced and warm tone for Blackface Fenders, and this pair works great, with one original cone and one professional recone. The blue foil labels on the magnets are in great shape, and the original wiring harness is present in the cab.

Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth on both the head and speaker cabinet. There are some expected small scuffs and nicks on the edges of the enclosures, but no serious wear of any kind, and this amp would look great in a studio collection. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and Fender logos. The faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There's a bit of patina and light surface rust on the tilt-back legs as well.

This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures.
