Up for sale, a 1960 Fender Concert in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This Concert is incredible sounding and complete with a quad of Oxford 10" 10K5 ceramic speakers with brown metal "Fender" bell covers. One of the earliest Brownface amps produced by Fender, this particular Concert features the light colored pinkish-brown tolex used for the first production runs. The combination of the Brownface 6G12 circuit and four Oxfords is truly something to behold. The amp delivers sweet, dynamic clean tones with incredible sparkle and a certain high fidelity clarity that is noticeable as soon as you strum your first chord. Turn the amp up past 5 and the amp starts to smoothly overdrive with just the right amount of bite. The EQ controls have incredible range and this amp is uncommonly warm for any Fender, never feeling too bright or brittle, with the perfect amount of midrange and focused low end. We cannot emphasize enough the rarity of these Oxford speakers, and the entire quad features their original speaker cones.

The circuit is very original in the ways that count and also recently serviced, with a host of Mallory capacitors in the preamp to keep the amp operating within original factory spec. The original filter caps have been upgraded to high quality F&T caps as well, and the power cable is of the modern three-prong variety. What's particularly notable about this early circuit is that it has only five preamp tubes (as opposed to the six tube version seen from 1961-63), and the transformers are identical to those used in the earlier Tweed era Bassman amps! All of the transformers are original, and the Schumacher choke date stamp even goes back as early as the 21st week of '60! The second channel boasts the Harmonic Vibrato circuit, which was the only Fender "Tremolo" circuit to ever have a true pitch shifting effect and sounds incredible, with deep pulsating warbles and a wide range of speeds, although unique to this early circuit, the Intensity control must be cranked up to around 6 before the effect starts to become present.

The previously noted Oxford 10K5 speakers are a matched new old stock quad, and the brown metal bell covers are a rare and cool accent used for only a short time by Fender on sparingly few models. The speakers have early 1962 date codes and while era correct, are not original to this particular Concert.

The original rough pinkish-brown tolex and oxblood grillcloth with gold stripe are intact and overall in quite remarkable shape. The tolex shows some faint paint flecks and discoloration around the edges of the cabinet, but overall presents very well with minor scuffs and a couple tiny spots of wear through the tolex around the corners. The speaker frames are very clean, as is the chassis itself. The stock Brownface faceplate is intact, showing some light warping around the jewel lamp as seen in the photos, but aside from that the faceplate is clean, with vibrant and original silkscreened graphics, along with a full compliment of brown barrel knobs. The original chassis straps, nickel corners and sphinx glides are all intact and in great shape as well. The flat "Fender" logo mounted on the baffle is original too.

This is an extremely rare Fender Brownface Concert, well maintained and ready for stage and studio use.
