Description

Offered here is a seemingly unplayed Stratocaster from the first decade of the Fender Custom Shop, a 1958 Stratocaster in vintage white blonde. These John Page-era Custom Shop guitars highly sought after because of their impeccable build quality, playability and tone.

Like the 1997 Custom Shop Telecaster we also have in stock, this instrument has an Ash body with a gorgeous transparent blonde nitrocellulose lacquer finish. It weighs 7.6 pounds. It was not aged and would be called an "NOS" format instrument using today's nomenclature. The neck is made from a lovely piece of birdseye Maple which has been given a chunky C-shape with depth measurements of .86" at the first fret, increasing to 1.00" at the twelfth fret. The fretboard has a 9.5" radius, the frets are 6105's and it has a 1.650" bone nut. It is unclear what pickups Fender used, they are unmarked black bobbin units, along with high quality cloth wiring and factory shielding paint in the cavities. It has a conventional Strat control setup with VTT and a five-way pickup selector.

This is a magnificent Strat, with a build quality that is on par with today's Masterbuilt guitars. The look, feel and tone are top notch by any standard. The pickups have a vintage Strat output that sounds superb, as evidenced by the short sound sample provided herein.

Despite being over two decades old, this gorgeous Strat guitar remains in virtually flawless condition, frets included. It could easily pass for a new instrument, but I will be conservative and call it 'near mint.' It comes in it's original Fender/G&G tweed case, also in near mint condition, along with the certificate of authenticity, the trem arm, the ash tray bridge cover and a few other accessories.

This is just a fantastic early Custom Shop Strat in virtually flawless condition. What a fantastic pair this guitar and the 1997 Custom Shop Tele we have in stock would make! Whether you are a collector or a player, it is a guitar that is sure to please. Make it yours today!
