Offered here is a guitar model that you don't come across too often, a Robert Cray Signature model built by the Custom Shop in 2007. If you are like many Strat players, myself included, you rarely reach for your tremolo bar or it simply never gets out of the case. You love the sound and feel of a Strat, but your fingers are your vibrato and the improved tuning stability of a hardtail bridge is much appreciated. If you are one of these players and you are looking for a super-high quality, light weight, Custom Shop Strat in pristine condition, then this fabulous Strat may be for you!
This gorgeous guitar has an Alder body and weighs just 7.54 pounds (7 pounds, 9 ounces). The neck is made of a single piece of highly figured Maple with a medium/large C-shape and depth measurements of .850" at the 1st fret increasing to .950" at the 12th. The lovely dark Indian Rosewood fretboard has a 12" radius, vintage style frets and a 1.650" bone nut. All the hardware is gold-plated. The single coil pickups are custom wound for this guitar and have a vintage output.
This guitar's rather unique combination of a very flat fretboard radius with vintage frets make for a very smooth and easy playing instrument. Amplified though my blackface, the sounds of Robert Cray and Albert Collins (where Robert Cray got his start) are unmistakable. The understated cosmetics specified by the Artist give this instrument some tasteful 'bling' that adds to it's cool vibe.
This beautiful guitar is in unplayed, collector-grade condition. The protective film is still on the pickguard and the three tone sunburst finish and gold hardware still gleam like the day this guitar was built. The frets are spotless. It comes in it's original brown G&G case with the certificate and all the accessories.
This guitar has the dubious distinction of being the highest priced Custom Artist model that the Custom Shop builds with a street price of $4,600. Get this as new 2007 example for far less. As hardtail Strats go, it would be very hard to do better than this gorgeous Robert Cray model. Make this beauty yours!
