Description

In 1997, Donal Gallagher, brother of the late great Rory Gallagher, lent his brother's fabled and well worn 1961 Strat to Fender to replicate with exacting detail. Fender built just 40 of these initially, but demand was such that production continued far beyond the initial run. Offered is this very, very special Rory Gallagher Stratocaster built by the Fender Custom Shop in 2008.

Accurately based on Rory's guitar, the specs of this lightly-played collector piece include: an Alder body with a total guitar weight of just 7 pounds, 10 ounces with heavily aged nitro finish; an early 60's C-shape maple neck with depth measurements of .790" at the 1st fret increasing to .905" at the 12th fret; a lovely dark rosewood fret board with 9.5" radius, medium/jumbo fret wire, a 1.650" nut and clay dots with one mismatched plastic inlay; Custom 60's single coil pickups with VTT controls and 3-way switching; aged plastic parts; and mismatched Sperzel tuners.

The aging on this guitar is incredible. Rory's very acidic sweat is said to have contributed to the premature aging of the original guitar's finish and Fender has replicated the paint loss with incredible accuracy. Strapping this instrument on is like slipping on your favorite and very familiar old leather jacket and it plays like a very special old friend too! The tone is everything that you would expect from a real vintage Stratocaster - fat with lots of overtones that are faithfull to Rory's own sounds. Please check out the brief sound sample of this guitar by clicking the 'Soundcloud' link below.

This guitar has seen little if any play and the frets look like new. It comes in the original brown G&G case, along with certificate of authenticity and the original accessories. These guitars are expensive to build because of the labor-intensive aging and new examples go for $4,500 or so. Save yourself a cool grand $ with this near new 2008 example. Make this iconic piece of rock guitar history yours today!
