This is one sweet 1955 Fender Esquire that resembles the Esquire that Luther Perkins of Johnny Cash fame and Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd played. A modified Esquire was used by Bruce Springsteen on "Born in the USA". First introduced in 1950 the Fender Esquire was appreciated for it's tone and simplicity. This 6.8 pound pre CBS guitar has a blond ash body with one piece maple neck. The maple fretboard has 21 frets and a scale of 25 1/2". The width at the nut is 1 5/8". It was built in the Fullerton, California plant. The body is dated in pencil in the neck pocket and the date at the butt-end of the neck matches. There is a single flat pole pickup with a chrome cover, a 3-way switch, chrome knob volume and tone controls. The capacitor tone, pot and all electronics appear to be original with no modification. There are stack pole pots with manufacture number 304. The headstock has the gold Fender spaghetti logo with black trim. Other features include Kluson single vertical line tuners, a white pickguard that is shiny on both sides, a black switchtip, phillips head screws, and an oval walnut peghead truss rod plug. The top of the post on one of tuners has been modified and the black tip on the switch may not be original. The top of guitar has been professionally refinished and nicely matches the original blond paint on the sides and back. The frets show limited wear and the fretboard has wear primarily on the top three frets. There is a cigarette stain on the bass edge of the headstock. There are nicks in various locations on the body with edge wear and light buckle scratches on the back. This Fender Esquire plays great and has nice harmonic overtones and is very responsive. It's been properly set up and has low action, no buzz and tons of boomchicka-boom vibe. Considering its age, this Esquire is in very good condition. The guitar has been part of our "historic collection" since 1992 and we have finally decided to offer it for sale. It comes with a new G&G vintage style tweed case with red interior.
