Being truthy like we are, we gotta tell ya this guitar came to us well-used. It was a session guitarist’s instrument, dragged from gig to gig in the subways of New York City. In the ’70s ’50s Teles were 20-year-old used guitars and, like vintage sports cars, not as coveted as they are today. This one had a funky mini-humbucking rout in the neck, changed tuners, and was stripped to natural finish (hey, The Beatles did it). Now after intensive care in the Willie’s repair shop, the rout is filled, as is the mini-switch cavity that was also there. Then using one of Willie’s personal Telecasters as a reference, we refinished it to a very correct “butterscotch” blonde finish. The bridge pickup is the original. Great neck with a medium profile and a bit of a “V” to it, fells and plays great. The logo is correct but finish went over it at long ago. Refretted as you might guess. Aged repro bridge, Duncan Antiquity neck pickup, really good fiber reproduction guard from our stash, original flush string ferrules. Comes in a late ’60s Fender hard case (we could find a real tweed one but $$$). Tons of tone and mojo!
