Welcome to JTKM STUDIO.

Did you miss out on the earliest known serial number, first run 1962 Fender Jaguar we had a couple of weeks ago? I don’t blame you if you did because that was sold, paid for and our the door in less than 12 hours. The good news for you is that what we have here is, by ours and online records, the third earliest serial number known to date to be put on a Fender Jaguar. If you want the rarest and one of the very first built Fender Jaguars, read on!

Here we have an exceptionally early, first run 1962 Fender Jaguar complete with its original brown Tolex case, hang tag, strap, bridge cover, tremolo arm and vintage string. With serial number 73355 this is the third earliest serial known to be put on a Fender Jaguar. We sold the earliest example which came out of the owners of JTKM STUDIO’s private collection, that one had serial number 69006.
What makes these Fender Jaguars exceptionally rare are their very early features that are generally unknown to a lot of collectors. The very first few Fender jaguars were as depicted in early Fender Jaguar advertisements/literature; they only have 9 screw holes on the pickguards (and body), notice the missing screw where your hand would naturally rest when playing, have slot-headed screws for the pickup height adjustment screws and quite often a very attractive swirling, birdseye maple on their headstock/neck exactly as is the case with this one here. Take a moment to check out our photographs, the headstock alone is something to behold, the birds-eye maple shimmers at different angles.

This rarity has a pencil neck date of January 1962 (1 / 62) which is a true rarity in itself. All electronics are Stackpole branded (304); the pots date to the 21st week of 1961 and the roller switches date to the 50th week of 1961. All soldering is fully original and has never been touched up or over-flowed. The body date seems to be Feb 1962 as these is a single ‘2’ written in the tremolo cavity. The pickups are very strong and well balanced and offer you that wonderful crystal clear Jaguar surfer tone. The finish is all original and there is no touch up paint applied anywhere on the body. The frets and nut are in excellent shape.

In terms of sound and playability these early Fender Jaguars are top of the tree by a long, long way. For all the custom colours in the world, and trust me we have seen them all, I would chosen a 9 hole guard Fender Jaguar over every single one.

The chances of finding another first run, 9 hole guard Fender Jaguar is exceptionally small. In fact I’m willing to bet you won’t find another fully original example on the market in the next decade. We are proud to say we have had two of them in the last month.
There you have it, yet another masterpiece here at JTKM STUDIO from the golden age. We cannot see this one hanging around for long.
