1999 Fender Japan JM66 Jazzmaster Order (DK-299) US Lake Placid Blue (ULP) CIJ, Offset, Limited, RARE
For sale is a 1999 Fender Japan JM66 Jazzmaster, featuring an exceptionally rare “shop order” (DK-299) finish in US Lake Placid Blue (ULP) with a matching headstock, complemented by a rich, dark rosewood fretboard. This sale includes a Fender gig bag and tremolo arm.
This distinctive shade of Lake Placid Blue is seldom seen on Jazzmasters, and this particular example has developed a beautiful yellowed patina over time. In certain lighting, it reveals stunning metallic green hues, making it one of the most visually striking Japanese Jazzmasters we’ve encountered—and we've seen quite a few!
Japanese-made Fenders are renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, and this Jazzmaster is no exception. The fit and finish are everything you’d expect from a Japanese-built instrument, rivalling, if not matching, the quality of its USA-made counterparts.
Sourcing Japanese Jazzmasters has become increasingly difficult, even within Japan itself. Their rising popularity within the music scene, combined with top-tier Japanese craftsmanship, has made them highly collectible. This particular model was produced in limited numbers, exclusively for the Japanese market, making it a rare sight outside of its country of origin.
Condition-wise, this Jazzmaster shows some signs of use and play-wear but remains fully functional with no breaks or repairs. There are various surface marks, including light indentations and scratches. The most significant cosmetic flaw is a chip in the wood on the rear of the upper left body, which has been photographed for reference, so please review the images carefully.
The neck and fretboard are in great shape, with a few minor indentations that do not affect playability, allowing for smooth movement across the fretboard. The frets exhibit some wear but still have plenty of life left and have been lightly dressed to optimise playability. The stock electronics and pickups remain untouched and operate flawlessly, as does the original hardware. The bridge has been upgraded with Mustang saddles, enhancing the guitar's performance and overall stability.
It’s been expertly cleaned and setup by Ben of Beej Guitar Repairs with a fresh set of 10-46 strings
