This is an all original & very early production Pre-CBS “Stacked Pot” Jazz Bass w/all the 1st issue features in all original condition, it has its original faded Sunburst finish over a very lightweight Ash body dated 9/60, these 1st Jazz Basses are ridiculously rare as we have never seen any ever dated prior to 8/60, its “Unbound” Slab Rosewood Clay Dot neck is super slim as only the 1st ones were & has an all in one logo w/the “counter body” portion inclusive, she has a penciled neck date of 9/60 made in the 2nd full month of production. It’s sporting a very low serial # (54XXX) stamped on its 4-bolt neck plate, its original Tortoiseshell Nitro pickgard has that luscious color used only in 1960-1, its 2 pickups are super smooth w/that quintessential “Jaco” sound !, its stacked pot date codes are from the 25th week of 1960, its original control cavity has the early type copper solder plates, its so cool from its nickel tuners to its threaded saddle bridge w/outside ground wire in place, it still retains its bridge & pickup covers, this is 1 of Leo’s earliest Jazz Basses & has a vibey patina for a 62 year old original, it plays & feels incredible, a few negatives are the back finishes buckle wear has some clear finish over it keeping it in place & its Fender logo has the “Jazz” part replaced, she’s still 1 of the most desirable examples on Earth, owned for a decade by Randy Weddle (1st pic), then by a good friend of mine for 35 years (2nd pic is of me in 1988) & now back at the Guitar Broker looking for its next caretaker, she’s very good overall & comes complete w/an original Brown Tolex/Orange lined Hard Case.
