Summary: The early year (1960-1962) Jazz Basses are some of the most iconic and desirable instruments on the vintage market. This particular bass just missed getting the Holy Grail concentric volume and tone knobs, but it does have its original (and still functional!) felt tipped string mutes. For the collector or player looking for a true thoroughbred to add to their stable, it really doesn’t get much better than this.

Body: Offset-waist contoured alder body with three color sunburst finish.

Neck: Maple with rosewood fretboard. Tapered fingerboard, Clay fingerboard dots. 34” scale.

Pickups/Hardware: Two single-coil pickups. Two volume and one master tone control with black knobs. Open-gear Kluson tuners with “clover” keys. Original bridge with individual felt string mutes. Chrome bridge and pickup covers. Treble-side finger rest. Tortoise grain celluloid three layer pickguard.

Cosmetics: This guitar has been well-maintained and stored by its original owner and looks great. The finish has worn to a warm patina with just enough playwear to give it character. There are dings and small divots in the finish, but other than general cosmetic wear, the body is in good shape. The neck has had an overspray at some point which has been buffed down to a satiny feel. All chrome parts are shiny with no pitting or corrosion. This is a gorgeous bass with the kind of natural mojo that can only come from use and time.

Playability: The action is low and playability is excellent. Pickups still pack plenty of power and the original electronics are in great shape. The body is a comfortable weight and resonant. Currently set up with flat wounds, with the original string mutes in effect, it has a woody thump that evokes classic jazz and soul tones.

Weight: 9 l bs, 2 oz.

Case: Original hard shell.
