Retrofret Stock # 7580. Fender Jazzmaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1958), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 31448, sunburst lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original tweed hard shell case. This is a cool and very early Jazzmaster, with a beautifully blended 3-color sunburst and the classic gold anodized pickguard, used only up to the summer of '59. This is an extremely early production example of the Jazzmaster with a date of December 1958 pencil marked on the neck heel; this model only went into full production in the fall of that year and '58's are quite rare. The pots date to the 43th and 50th week of that year as well. At the time the Jazzmaster was a brand new model, and top of the line-Leo's new pride and joy. When this example was made Fender definitely lavished the maximum of care and effort on their production. Used but not abused, this well-played but well cared-for guitar remains an exceptional sounding and extremely attractive twang machine. We have always found there is something special about these earliest Jazzmasters; This one is no exception and has a nice "ring" to the tone, even when not plugged in.Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 14 1/4 in. (36.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). A nicely original guitar-there is normal play wear overall but no abuse, repair or alteration except for an exact correct refret. There is a decent amount of finish wear to the edges of the body, some buckle wear to the back and the neck is also worn on both edges for most of its length. The top and the anodized pickguard have some wear but nothing excessive. All components are original except the trem arm; as with all these early models this is a fantastic sounding and playing guitar with a bright but powerful twang that mellows nicely when the controls are rolled back. Includes a well-worn but still solid original tweed HSC. Overall Very Good + Condition.
