Welcome to JTKM STUDIO.
Here we have a spectacular 1959 Fender Jazzmaster, complete with its very clean original brown Tolex case, hang tag, strap, cable, polish cloth, vintage string, bridge cover and tremolo arm. It does not get any better than this particular Jazzmaster. If you’re a buyer, read on!
Here at JTKM STUDIO we know a few things about Fender Jazzmasters. Over the last two decades we have had hundreds of Jazzmasters from 1958 to 1966 and we can safely say absolutely none of them come close to this one. This is the finest Fender guitar we have ever had in our possession by a long, long way.
As always, we will let the photographs do most of the talking in terms of its condition. The Jazzmaster is a solid 9.5 /10 and simply stunning in person. Take a look at the way the alder body is almost like curled maple around a particular sweet spot on the front of the body. It is difficult to capture in the photographs but it is as if the finish and wood shimmers and swirls around that noticeable point on the front of the body. It truly is something to behold in person. Let us now mention the neck. The neck is so clean and unfaded it still has that beautiful white maple glow on the headstock. Now lets us mention the back of the neck. There is a wonderful grain to the maple which converges to what I can only best describe as a beauty spot. Take a look for yourself, it is just wonderful.
In terms of sound and playability, this beats every Fender guitar we have come across. The neck pickup is without doubt the finest sounding Fender pickup we have heard. This is a prime example of when an offset Fender guitar makes a Fender Stratocaster sound vastly inferior. Plug this Jazzmaster straight into a Fender amp, no pedals are needed, it is blissfully crisp, clean, soulful and responsive in such a way that it wants you to keep playing. Both pickups are very strong with readings 8.22 ohms at the neck and 7.77 at the bridge and they are set at exactly the right heights so they are perfectly balanced.
The Jazzmaster is 100% original and I was the first person to take this apart to check the internals. There have been no replacements or repairs ever done to the Jazzmaster. The Pots, which are CTS branded, date to the 26th and 39th week of 1959. The body date, which is found under the bridge pickup shielding is dated to November 1959 (11 / 59). The neck is as expected for 1959 and left blank without a neck date. The original neck shim is still in place and we have not altered it in any way from when it left the factory. All wiring, soldering and masking tape is 100% original and untouched; as we stated, we are the only one to have ever taken this one apart. All switches and pots are fully functional. The tone roller switch for the upper rhythm circuit is a little stiff as it is rubbing against the shielding (when to take the guard off and release the tension the switch rotates freely), but it still rotates the full 360 degree without too much effort. You could slightly cut back the shielding to allow the roller switch to freely rotate without friction, but we have left in its original condition as it works fine as it is. The frets are at the perfect vintage height and make the Jazzmaster effortless to play, they are exactly where you wants them to be on a Jazzmaster in our opinion. The nut is fully function and issue free. The pickguard only has minor warping as expected on all period correct Jazzmasters.
The original brown Tolex case is very clean with no bad smells and the case candy is in fine shape too.
We shall say it again: this is the finest Fender guitar we have ever had and I am sure you will agree with us. It was exceptionally hard to put a value on this one but we do consider it massively under-valued.
There you have it, yet another masterpiece here at JTKM STUDIO from the true golden age.
