I was searching for something new to write about the Legend himself, but it seemed that everything that was ever going to be said about Jimi had already been written. Then, I happened across something different and odd and these events wound up being perfect lead-in for this Strat.

Although these Monterey Strats were produced in the last half of 2017 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jimi's performance at the Monterey Pop Festival, it was another set of performances he did in 1967 that I found most interesting.

It was The Monkees' first U.S. tour and almost unbelievably, Jimi was tapped to be their opener for that tour. I found this to be one of the oddest pairings I'd ever heard of and I've been to hundreds of concerts. To be somewhat short, he completed only seven shows on that tour before dropping off on July 17, 1967. I can only imagine the looks on those thousands of teenybopper girls' faces when Mr. Hendrix wailed out onto that stage and scared them into celibacy. At least, for that afternoon...

As to this particular guitar, I'd hate to call anything "mint," but this is as close as you can get. I can't find a mark on it and the guitar shows absolutely zero signs of ever being played. We'll call this one a true "case king." The package includes a nice hardshell case, trem arm, some tags, and case keys. If you're going to consider one of these limited-run guitars, you might as well get the nicest one available, so as always, we thank you for stopping by and urge you to please call, email or PM with any questions!.
