A signed copy of George Fullerton’s book Guitar Legends features this instrument as Leo Fender owned with several photographs and mention in text. This historic 1967 Fender Mustang guitar was owned and used extensively by Leo Fender for his hands on personal use to demonstrate working prototypes of research & development ideas post CBS while still employed by Fender after selling to them in 1965. We purchased this instrument from a friend of George Fullerton’s son Geoff Fullerton who also supplied certificates of authenticity, as well as other instruments owned by Leo and George. This particular Leo Fender instrument probably speaks the loudest regarding the man and his visionary inventing prowess, it includes two brand new Leo Fender ideas, the three-bolt tilt adjust neck plate and a tremolo system I’ve never seen. Worth mentioining the three bolt tilt adjust neck plate an idea that George and Leo generously re invent and credit George Fullerton years later and basically "use" their new idea on all of the subsequent Music Man land then G & L instruments. The crude looking but surprisingly well made prototype is exactly like the one that went into production and was used on all Fender Strats and other 3 bolt models that came after. If that were not enough there’s a unique tremolo system prototype on this same instrument. It appears to be a functioning idea for a new type of floating tremolo but not exactly like anything I’ve seen and unlike anything that went into production at Fender, Music Man or G & L that I know of. It would be interesting to see if Leo applied for or received a patent for this particular tremolo, I doubt it as it certainly hasn’t shown up on any of his instruments other than this one. We accept Visa, Bank wire transfer, cashiers check, bank check, personal check or cash. No credit cards, if you need to use a credit card or even finance an item this can be done through Reverb.com.
We ship USPS Priority and Fed Ex Ground next business day, all instruments are carefully packed utilizing new shipping materials, all instruments are insured by Heritage Insurance. All parcels are flat rate shipped and are the same price for all buyers in the domestic USA, international shipping is also flat rate for anywhere in the world. The price is based on the cost of new shipping materials, boxes, bubble wrap, tape and labor and has nothing to do with where you are or your ability to pick it up in person. It is not in our business model to offer in person demonstrations of instruments or in person pickup, both of these things take an employee and extra time. If you have a limit as to what you want to spend on shipping please factor this into you instrument offer as we accept reasonable offers on most items. If an item doesn’t allow a lower offer it’s because it’s already been discounted and already at its lowest price. We recommend that you don’t chose an instrument based on shipping cost alone as there are more important issues all of which we have well covered. I might point out that all of our guitars come with professional detailing and set up, this has real value and keeps one from getting inferior work from an unqualified retail establishment. Thanks for your understanding. John Russell Nelson owner VGA Vintage Gear America
