Used Fender MIJ Stratocaster, Aging Daphne Blue

Replay Guitar Exchange presents a striking Made In Japan Fender Stratocaster from approximately 1990 or 1991. It evidently started life as a Daphne Blue instrument, which can still be seen in only slightly yellowed form around the pick guard — but the edges have yellowed much more obviously from age (with possible help from cigarette smoke) to look more like Surf Green.*

This venerable Strat is in Good condition, with missing tremelo arm, pickup switch tip, back plate, and various dings, scrapes and buckle rash befitting its age — but no issues affecting playability. The neck has an estimated 80% remaining fret life, and a rich amber color — whether factory-tinted, darkened by actual age, or both.

Ironically, after determining that this guitar is not truly Surf Green, we proceeded to play some authentic first wave surf music on it. Its aftermarket pickups are a bit hot, but in a good way — and its neck inspired many flourishes of epic, reverb-laden improv whose utterly classic sounds (in all five pickup positions) had several of us reaching for our own wallets. All predicted that this MIJ beauty will sell quickly to an aficionado.

*Daphne Blue and Surf Green are often confused with each other, AND with the slightly darker/greener Sea Foam Green. They can look similar to each other even when brand new — depending heavily on the color temperature of available room light when in person, and/or the calibration of one's computer monitor when seen online... but for this Strat, we're going with 'Aging Daphne Blue that's looking kind of like Surf Green in places.'
