Here’s a sleeper for you: a 1961 Fender Musicmaster. One pickup. Two knobs. But some serious tone. We love old Musicmasters. The 50s models with the Maple fingerboards and gold pickguards are iconic in their own right, but this early 60s model with the Maroonburst finish and Brazilian Rosewood board is quite rare. The neck on this one is nice and full and the pickup punches well above its weight class.
Nut width is 1 9/16 inches. Scale length is 22 1/2 inches. Neck depth at the first fret is 13/16 inches and at the 12th fret a full inch. Rounded profile that sits well in the hand. 21 frets. Brazilian Rosewood “slab board” with clay dots—gotta love that. Kluson Deluxe tuners with white buttons.
We love this guitar and we think you will, too. Plays great and has a big sound for such a small guitar. If you know about Musicmasters, you know they’re true sleeper guitars. If you don’t know, here’s your chance to find out what you’ve been missing.
