(Serial No. L36853) Excellent condition, made in USA. Pre-CBS production. This is the desirable Olympic White finish with the tortoise guard. It looks white in the photographs but it has aged to a beautiful light ivory color. 100% original down to the screws, with a L series neckplate, CTS pot codes dating to 1964, a 1964 neck stamp, weighs 7.25 pounds, 24 inch scale with the 1/2 inch nut width and 7 1/4 inch fretboard radius. Has a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and clay dot position markers with a medium C shaped profile that gets slightly deeper as you move into the higher registers of the fretboard. Much of the gloss nitro lacquer has worn down to the bare maple on the back of the neck, for very smooth and comfortable playing. Decal is intact and all electronics, hardware and finish are original and work fine. Since the pickups are essentially flat pole Stratocaster pickups with covers over the magnets, the tones are surprisingly similar, although the Mustang has the added benefit of a pair of phase switches for a very cool hollow twang when both pickups are engaged and out of phase. This guitar has date codes that all correspond with the first year of production, in addition to all of the early features of this model including the Pat. Pending vibrato unit, Kluson Deluxe tuners, and a slab poplar body style without the side relief seen on the later guitars. Plays very well as it was just set up professionally by my local luthier Jerry Ray. Sounds very resonate and soulful, with great jangle and clarity. Has the usual nicks and dings of a played guitar, but nothing major. Comes with the original silver Fender case
