Retrofret Stock # 7223. Fender Mustang Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1967), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 203300, Dakota Red finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original hard shell case. This is a lovely Dakota red finish 1960's Mustang Bass, well preserved and 100% original. This bass was built in the model's second year, 1967 and still has all the characteristics of the earliest version. The Mustang was quite popular when new and remains is one of the best short-scale basses ever designed as well as Leo Fender's last original design for the company that bore his name. Light, handy and great sounding, a fine playing bass and a neat piece of Fender history.Overall length is 42 1/8 in. (107 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 30 in. (762 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). A really good example, all original with some light-moderate finish wear overall but the only really notable spot of loss to the topcoat is in the typical armwear spot on the body. There is one notable spot of heavier wear into the wood, on the side of the neck on the treble side behind the first fret from the instrument rubbing over the screw in the case mounted on the neckrest securing the vinyl tie-down. (And yes, if someone back in the day had used that tie-down properly, this would have been avoided!). Apart from this the bass remains quite well preserved and an excellent player. The original case has some heavy cat wear to the top edge but remains solid, the bass' mute assembly is removed but included. Excellent - Condition.
