Summary: In the late 60s and early 70s, Fender did something very cool with their “student model” Mustang guitar. The Fender Mustang now had 3 slick racing stripes located by the new upper arm contour and features the same Dynamic Vibrato unit and dual single coil pickup configuration that we come to expect from the Mustang. This Fender has the beautiful Competition Red finish, veneer rosewood fingerboard and F stamped tuners and neck plate. Overall, this guitar is in good vintage condition and it plays and sounds great thanks to a pro setup by our in house luthier and a new set of 10s. The red finish on this one has aged & has some currents of orange and gold in the finish in certain light.

Body: Solid offset contoured Mustang body with competition red finish and 3 cream racing strips. It is topped off with the original 3 ply pearloid pickguard.

Neck: Maple neck with rosewood veneer fingerboard, pearl dots, replacement nut, large headstock, 1.625” nut width and 24” scale length.

Pickups/Hardware: 2 single coil pickups, 2 on/off/on switches, 1 volume, 1 tone, Dynamic Vibrato unit, large barrel saddles, 2 string trees and F stamped tuning keys with white buttons.

Cosmetics: The finish on this vintage Fender is checking all over the place and it looks really beautiful. There are lots of small dings & dents on the body and some wear through the color around the edges. There are some substantial grooves in the rosewood fingerboard but it doesn’t affect playability. The sides of the neck show lots of wear & a few places where the finish has chipped off giving it a real road-worn and broken in feel. There is a lot of pick wear on the pickguard in one spot which is worn through the top layer. The pickguard is shrinking a bit but it isn’t cracked.

Playability: Our in-house luthier has just inspected, set up and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s and it is playing beautifully with low action and a straight neck. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots.

Modifications: The nut slot was widened slightly & it has a new replaced nut. The metal vibrato plate has been changed.

Weight: 7 lbs, 7 oz.

Case: This vintage Mustang doesn’t include a case and it doesn’t come with the whammy bar. We will box this instrument up professionally packed & ship it fully insured.
