We had this P-Bass looked over by "The Fender Doctor" and this is the rundown that they gave:
Neck Date : 5 Jan 64
Pot Date Code ; 304-6403
Color : Three-Tone-Sunburst
Model : Precision Bass
Serial # : L61470
Neck : C
This Fender Precision Bass was produced in January 1964. It is all original with one exception. One of the original pickup coils was dead so it was sent to Seymour Duncan Custom Shop and it was rewound. The bobbin is still original, only the coil wire was rewound to original spec.
The Neck is straight and the frets and fretboard show almost no ear. The neck finish is in nice shape and the original decal is intact. There is a small chip in the top of the headstock that was glued back in place.
The Hardware is in great condition with almost no rust or corrosion. The pickguard shows the usual shrinkage, which pulls the mounting screws toward the center. The pickup holehas been enlarged slightly at some point, because the pickups were no longer adjustable due to the shrinkage.
The finish on the body shows little wear, but there is some substantial checking, especially under the strings between the bridge and the pickguard. There are a few chips in this area, but the paint on the rest of the guitar is still there.
The original white Tolex case is in great condition inside and out, with working latches and all the skids are there. The bass weighs 8.4 lbs. The pickup measures 11.2k ohms.
This is a very nice example of a Pre-CBS P-Bass that has that classic sound that bass players love.
