Retrofret Stock # 4651. Fender Precision Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1964), made in Fullerton, California, serial # L32952, sunburst lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case. This bass is a well-played but superb and entirely original example of the classic sunburst Precision from the last great pre-CBS summer of 1964. The pots are dated 64-26 (26th week) and the neck date is July 64. The bass shows all the original 1960's Pre-CBS features including a clay dot, rosewood fingerboard neck, thick tortoise celluloid pickguard and thin lacquer finish. The Fender decal is the new "transition" logo just recently added to the Precision bass when this one was assembled. This is a wonderful instrument for any style of music, perfectly balanced and an absolute joy to play, appreciate and just marvel at the glory days of Fender goodness.Overall length is 45 7/8 in. (116.5 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). This fantastically worn-in bass has been well played for years, and for good reason, but not abused or altered in any way. There is finish wear overall but the face is still fairly clean; the edges and the back of the body show loss to the lacquer in several fairly large areas. All finish, electronics and hardware remain original; there are no repairs or alterations. The lower tip of the pickguard is missing on the cutaway horn but the typical 'guard shrinkage is less than many overall. The neck is in very good playing condition, with finish wear down to the wood over much of the back surface- the original small frets have some roundwould string wear but are still fully functional. This is simply an outstanding example of a playable Pre-CBS Fender bass, with enough wear that it's not too clean to gig but no excuses. It sings with the typically warm but clear tone and is an effortless player. Not an artificially aged "relic", this is a true veteran and one of the finest player's basses we could hope to find. Includes the bridge cover, center handrest and the original black Tolex Fender HSC. Overall Very Good + Condition.
