While it was widely believed in the past that James Jamerson's "Funk Machine" was a 1962 model, it's now commonly thought that it was actually a '65 or '66 version, with pearl fret markers and a transitional logo. That said, 1962 was a pinnacle year for the mighty P-Bass and this '62 AVRI reissue will take you right back to that time from the first note.

This one has the neck- 1 3/4" at the nut and a relatively slimmer profile- just like they carved back in '62. We strung this bad boy up, dialed the tone knob back halfway and that sound was immediately present. While I can't come close to the awesome lines and talent of Jamerson, I can get there in terms of tone. This bass almost plays itself and at some point in the past, it inspired a bassist so much that he put "Funk Machine" on the heel. It's done in such a cool manner, I had to double-check and make sure it wasn't put there by the guys at Fender. It looks that factory and only adds to the hipness of the bass.

This bass is clean and tidy, folks. There are a few very light surface scratches, but you'll have to look for them. Both covers and the original case are present and it's got a fresh set of D-Addario NYXL's just installed. If you're looking to go back to the early '60s for that vintage P-Bass tone, look and feel, then this is the bass that will take you there.

As always, we thank you for stopping by and please call, email or PM with any questions. Merry Christmas!
