This all original pre CBS 1959 Fender Stratocaster is both a great playing guitar and a very collectable one as well. We are classifying the condition of this guitar as very good but it could easily be considered excellent since the only alteration from the original is a single screw. The five digit serial number, 411_ _, is engraved on the four screw metal neck plate. Written inside the rear tremolo cavity is the date 7/59. As usual for this time period, mid to late '59, there is no neck date. The asymmetrical, double cutaway guitar weighs 7.4 pounds. It has an alder body with a three tone sunburst finish that has faded little over time. It has a one piece maple neck with a Brazliian rosewood slab fretboard with an attractive inky grain. The fretboard has 10 white clay dots markers, 21 frets, and a 25 1/2" scale with a nut width of 1 5/8". It has the rarer 11 screw single layer white pickguard. There is a small aluminum shield on the back of pickguard between the pots and the pickguard. On the headstock next to the string retainer is the Fender decal logo in gold lettering that reads Fender Stratocaster With Synchronized Tremolo. In smaller letters above the logo it reads Original Contour Body. Electronics include three single coil pickups with exposed poles and white covers. Resistance readings on the pickups are: 5.70 on the neck pickup, 5.52 on the middle pickup, and 5.58 on the bridge pickup. There are two 250K pots with the code 304920 (20th week of 1959) and one with the code 304901 (1st week of 1959). It has a white chicklet capacitor. Other features include an angled chrome output jack, Kluson deluxe tuners with oval buttons, and Fender tremolo with bridge saddles stamped pat. pending. A single screw on the left of the middle pickup is the only replaced part on the entire instrument. All electronics are original and work well. The neck fits snugly in its pocket. We carefully scanned the guitar under a black light and all paint is original. There is buckle wear on the back of the guitar and various dings mostly on the back edge with less on the front edge and a few scratches on the top. There is some fret wear mostly on the first three frets. One ear on the post of the top tuning key is broken which does not impact the playabilty. One tiny corner of the white tremolo cover is broken and one corner shows some slight cracking. The fretboard is in real nice shape with below average wear. The pickup output is great and the guitar has a luxurious, clear tone. While the back of the neck indicates hand wear it is smooth and comfortable. It is simply a wonderful iconic instrument to play. The Strat comes with a heavily worn tweed case with burnt orange plush lining and a funky latch which is likely original.
