1963 Fender Stratocaster. This guitar features at body refinish in Nitro Lacquer Sonic Blue by Fiesta Finishes. The neck finish is very, very old and weathered, but appears to have had an overspray, or partial refinish, at least on the back of the neck. The neck was recently professionally refretted with 6105 frets, the perfect fret size for Fender guitars. The fingerboard has some wear, but nothing serious. The original tuners have always been on the guitar, and hence there are no extra holes, enlarged holes, etc. The neck plays amazingly well on this guitar. The decal is a reproduction.
The guitar is otherwise all original with a few exceptions. The guard and shield have been replaced. The volume pot and output jack have been replaced with Custom Shop level components, CTS and Switchcraft. The saddles are correct Pat. Pend. vintage replacements, which have been aged. The trem bar and trem cover are reproductions.
The tuners, jack cup, strap buttons, tone pots, tone cap, 3-way switch, knobs, pickup covers, bridge, block, claw, are all original. The pickups are original, with original leads. The middle pickup has been rewound, while the neck and bridge pickups have original windings.
The serial number is 93XXX, one of the last pre-L-series guitars. The pickups measure, neck to bridge, 6.2K Ohms, 6.0K Ohms, 5.9K Ohms. The guitar weighs 7.9 lbs. The neck is medium to big, measuring .817" at 1st fret and 1.00" at 12th fret. The body date is 1/63 making this an early '63 model as also indicated by the serial number. The pots are coded 304 6309, also early in the year. The neck date is faded and/or lost in the neck overspray, very difficult to read, but appears to be JAN 63.
The guitar ships in a newer plastic Fender case. These cases are nice as they are sturdy, and lightweight.
This is an amazing sounding and playing Stratocaster. The new frets make for easy playing. The bridge pickup is very bright with major spank, while both middle and neck pickups are quite bluesy and warm toned. The guitar has a nice feel and balance, as one would expect from one of the best years of the Stratocaster.
