Up for sale, a 1975 Fender Stratocaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Aside from a new pair of strap buttons, this guitar is 100% original and a great example of a '70s Strat. This guitar retains a vibrant three-color sunburst finish, with original gray bobbin pickups, and a lightweight ash body. Weighing in at 7lbs 12oz, the guitar balances well on a strap and has a clear, ringing tone when strummed acoustically. Plugged in, the trio of single coil pickups excel at delivering Strat tones that chime, twang, and shimmer with the best of them. The guitar exemplifies the best qualities of the tone woods employed here, with the snap and attack of the maple fretboard, paired with the midrange rich fullness and power associated with ash. There's plenty of sparkle and cut in the bridge position, with a chiming middle position, and a neck pickup that has great girth and detail. The 2 and 4 positions have the Strat's signature honk and quack, and all pickups have well balanced and strong output. Professionally setup and strung with 10-46 strings, this guitar has low action and solid intonation.
The neck has a quintessential medium C shaped profile with plenty of roundness in the shoulders that give it a feel that borders on the chunkier side of things. The perfectly smooth gloss finish on the back of the neck feels great on the palm and this neck is simply a joy to play. The neck has been partially refretted from 1-11, with original frets further up the neck. The newer fretwire has similar height and width to the original wire in the higher registers, and the frets have been leveled and crowned, playing uniformly up the neck. The guitar retains its original gloss finish on the fretboard, with a 7 1/4" radius. There are a few small chips in the board adjacent to replaced frets which don't impede playability, and the guitar plays well with no buzzing or dead spots. The nut has the standard "B" width of 1 5/8", and a new nut has been cut for the guitar, with appropriate grooves for each string that match well with the fretboard radius. On the headstock, the original Stratocaster decal with one patent # is intact, as well as the original Fender "F" tuning machines that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 31st week of '75. All three gray bobbin pickups have clean stamps on the bobbins, and this is a textbook example of a 100% original and untouched Fender wiring harness. The plastic parts are all intact and in great shape, with a bit of patina and wear through the lettering on the knobs, a very clean white three-ply pickguard, and three near flawless pickup covers. The chrome hardware is equally clean, with bridge saddles that show barely any surface wear. The guitar comes complete with the original vibrato arm, and the vibrato is currently set up with three springs, responding well to dives and quick warbles, with a reliable and solid feel. The date stamp on the neck heel also confirms a 1975 date of manufacture.
Cosmetically, the pictures really do most of the talking, as this is a clean and well cared for instrument in excellent condition. The sunburst is vibrant and rich, with only very light yellowing of the clear coat when comparing the exposed finish and the finish protected under the pickguard. There is a bit of wear through the finish at the end of the fretboard (a previous owner clearly favored picking across the neck pickup), as well as a couple tiny nicks through the finish south of the bridge and near the rear strap button. There is tight horizontal lacquer checking across the entire body, with more prominent checking on the back in the belly cut and some extremely faint buckle rash in the clear coat (not through the finish) localized near the top right corner of the vibrato cover plate. An extra strap button hole has also been added on the back of the bass side body horn.
This Strat plays well, looks great, and is very original, with an untouched wiring harness and clean three-tone sunburst finish!
The original hardshell case is included.
