Tweed 5F4 Supers almost never come up for sale. Everybody comments on how rare the Bandmaster is (same amp section as a Super) but they seem to come up for sale more than the Supers do. One reason is that the early narrow panel Super (55-56) was a slightly different amp-it ran on 6V6 power tubes while the later (57-60) ran on 6L6. So, they simply weren't made for as many years in that configuration. Both types have their fans but I think the 6L6 Super is simply a better sounding amp. And practical. They don't weigh all much at around 35 lbs and they aren't real big. They put out 26 watts which is plenty for most spaces and have enough headroom to play clean at enough volume for a small to mid size venue. Tweed Deluxes are great but at 14 watts, the headroom just isn't there. Bandmasters and Supers are expensive due to their rarity but there is simply nothing like them. The best amps Fender ever made. The filter caps have been changed. Tone caps were left alone. Original transformers and speakers. Changed handle.
