Retrofret Stock # 7978. Fender Telecaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1966), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 125248, Blonde lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, period black hard shell case. This lovely Telecaster was built just over a year after Fender became CBS/Fender, and is still a wonderful instrument in the grand Leo tradition. The neck date is March 1966 and the pots date to the 9th week of that year. The evolving features of the Telecaster in this specific era include a 3-ply laminated white plastic pickguard (replacing the earlier white single-layer and subsequent green nitro versions) with the old-style thin blonde lacquer finish, a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dots, a new in 1966 "transition" logo decal and the old-style Kluson tuners. This Tele has a light ash body that handles perfectly and resonates for days, and a very comfortable neck with the new-for-1966 larger fretwire. A very cool mid-60's Telecaster, all original but with enough wear to play without fear and a slightly warmer, less spikey tone than many '60's examples!Overall length is 37 3/4 in. (95.9 cm.), 12 3/4 in. (32.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). This is a nicely unmolested guitar, all original with some wear and use but no damage, repairs or modifications. The blonde finish has a very vibey distinctly "smoky" ambered hue, likely the result of some bar gigs along the way. There are small dings and rubs into the finish with some belt-buckle scuffing into the back but no large areas of loss. The finish on the back of the neck is worn down a bit mostly on the treble side, with that classic "used Fender' feel-a vibe the company would lose a couple of years later by switching to a Polyester neck finish. There are some dents in the neck pickup cover and corrosion on the bridge saddles but everything works as intended. All the original electronics are intact, nothing appears to have been disturbed in the wiring-the pickups are still blended in the original pre-1967 style with a bass capacitor in position #1. The frets have been taken down somewhat but still play well. Overall a fine playing and great sounding example of this period Telecaster, includes a worn in but still decently preserved OHSC. Overall Excellent - Condition.
