Description

Offered for your consideration is yet another fabulous vintage Fender Telecaster. This lovely Tele was built in 1966, very soon after the CBS takeover and before the new ownership managed to make many changes to this iconic model. It has a highly desirable rosewood fingerboard and appears entirely original save for new frets and nut.

This Telecaster is serial number 174571. It has a neck date of November, 1966. It has an ash body and a blonde nitrocellulose lacquer finish. It has a medium C-shaped maple neck with depth measurements of .838" at the first fret tapering up to .920" at the twelfth fret. The lovely dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboad with pearloid dot inlays. The frets were replaced in the not too distant past with medium wire and the nut was replaced at the same time. The original frets and nut are included in the case. Everything else about this instrument is original, including the finish, pickups, wiring and controls. The pots date to the 13th week of 1966. All the solder joints appear original and the factory-installed "bass circuit" on the neck pickup is still in place. It has the Kluson Deluxe tuners which pre-dated the "F" branded units used in subsequent years. This guitar weighs in at an incredibly light 6.5 pounds (6 pounds, 8 ounces) and is nicely balanced.

This old beauty sounds divine. Please check out the very brief sound sample included below. The first segment of the recording is the guitar in the neck position, so the tone is quite muffled due to the factory original "bass circuit" installed by Fender during the early years of this model. The middle and bridge positions offer the tones that have made vintage examples like this one so sought after. It plays smooth and easy, like a much newer guitar and the truss rod remains fully functional.

As the saying goes, "the good ones have been played" and this one certainly has. While the body shows its share of wear (see photos), the neck and fretboard remain in superb condition and the original wiring and electronics remain intact and untouched. It comes in its original hardshell case along with the "ashtray" bridge cover and the original frets and nut.

Needless to say, vintage pieces like this marvelous Telecaster are few and far between. Make this iconic instrument yours today. I can assure you, you will be very glad you did!
