Offered is an instrument I've had for several months, but have been reluctant to offer for sale because I've been enjoying it so much. Offered for your consideration is Fender 1967 Telecaster, serial number 185720.
This guitar appears to be completely original. Built in the early part of 1967 (it has a neck date of April, 1967) it still has some features indicative of a pre-CBS guitar, the most obvious being the original Kluson double line tuners which pre-date the "F" tuners Fender started using soon after this guitar was built. This is an ash bodied guitar with a maple neck and a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard and the original frets. The oval "C" shaped neck profile measures .840" at the first fret, increasing to .940" at the twelfth fret. The electronics appear completely original including the "bass circuit" when in the neck pickup position. The solder joints are original and untouched. The pots date to 1966 and the pickups to 1967.
I've been enjoying this guitar very much since it's acquistion. It is light, balanced and plays superbly, even with the original frets which remain in very good condition. Please check out the brief sound sample of this guitar included below. This is one real gem of a Tele!
The original owner was a fan of country star Jerry Reed and apparently took this instrument to a 1986 concert where Jerry signed the face of the guitar (instead of the pickguard) with "To Earl, thank you, Jerry Reed" and the guitar comes with a ticket stub from this concert as provenance of this. The finish has since faded in this area, likely from subsequent attempts to remove the autograph. Besides this, there is buckle rash and finish flaws consistent with a well-played vintage guitar. The guitar comes with its original and well-worn G&G black tolex case, with the Fender instruction booklet included with guitars from this era and the aforementioned Jerry Reed concert ticket stub.
Despite it's unique cosmetic issues, this is one of the finest vintage Telecasters you are likely to find. I will really hate to see this one go, but I am sure the next owner will be as thrilled as I have been. Make this vintage beauty yours - it is something really special!
