Description

Natural, mahogany body, EX++, lacquer finish, cloth wire. Really, really clean with only three small spots of the fretboard to show you, yes, it’s lacquer. This is quite rare. We see three Paisley Teles for every one of these mahogany bodied classics.

Gibson was really selling a lot of their own thinline models in the later 60’s. Look at Gibson shipping totals and you will see almost three times the number of 335’s in ’67 as in ’65. It is the same with Rickenbacker. Fender hired former Rickenbacker guy Roger Rossmeisl to develop a semi-hollow instrument to compete. Look on Wikipedia and you will see they really came out in 1969. Wait, what? These were priced 30% higher than a normal Telecaster too. So…yes, rare. At 6.5 pounds it’s light. It is very loud acoustically with a real rumble and very satisfying even before you plug it in.

This guitar is extra clean with no issues and no buckle wear, just a few small hard to find dings. It has some flame in the neck too. As you know all Telecasters made from 1950-1967 had what’s called a “mud cap” to simulate bass but from '67 to '68  no mud cap was present, and the pickups still have cloth wire. This guitar just glows as the lacquer has gently aged and slightly yellowed. Again, we dare you to find another 1968 Telecaster Thinline in mahogany with lacquer finish, no mud cap, and cloth wire (not 1969). Comes with the original hard case and bridge cover.
