当初1972年より1981年の間に発売されていたオリジナルのテレキャスター・カスタム、この1972年製のオリジナル・テレキャスター・カスタムを限定にて復刻したモデルが2008年製Fender USA FSR '72 TELECASTER CUSTOM 。
フロントピックアップに配置されたワイドレンジ・ハムバッキングが大きな特徴で、太く温かみのあるサウンドが得られます。このハムバッキングは、ギブソン社に在籍しギブソン社のオリジナル・ハムバッキング・ピックアップ(通称P.A.F)の開発者でも知られるセス・ラバーにより考案されたピックアップです。
フェンダー社では異色のハムバッキング搭載機種ですが、幅広いサウンドはキース・リチャーズ等有名ミュージシャンをも魅了し愛用された伝統的なテレキャスター。オリジナルは重量の重い物が多いですが、このモデルは軽量な為か全体的に軽やかなサウンドも魅力。演奏性能も抜群で「使えるテレカスタム欲しいな」との方にもおすすめのモデルです。
