A conversation with Fred Stuart...

I spoke to Fred yesterday regarding this Goldenhawk doubleneck. I was merely trying to get any specifics and information he may have had on it and to be honest, I assumed he would tell me to hold on while he checked his notes. Nope, that didn't happen. "I remember that guitar- the chartreuse one." he said and then proceeded to tell me what he could from memory. (he was working on another guitar as we spoke) The body was painted in 2000 or 2001 and the guitar assembled a few years later- that's how we dated it. The fretboards are either Cocobolo or African Rosewood- they were chosen because of their similar appearance to Brazilian Rosewood. Well, it was a job well done because I immediately thought they were Brazilian- they're that spot on. This guitar has a 1-piece pine body and you'll immediately notice the resonance when you strum it. It was made for a prominent Dallas-based guitar dealer, so until we acquired it, it was a 1-owner guitar. The 12-string neck is actually an old Fender Custom Shop neck with the headstock modified to the Stuart design. The tone is that of a vintage Esquire and I have been assured by Fred that this is the only doubleneck guitar he has made under the Stuart name. That "one-of-a-kind" stuff gives us goosebumps around here. It could also be noted that a Masterbuilt doubleneck from the Fender Custom Shop will be north of $10,000.00, if you can find one.

If you are familiar with Mr. Stuart's work as a Masterbuilder for Fender, then you can already imagine the quality of this Goldenhawk. It's as if all of his skills and imagination were summoned during the construction of this piece and the final result is nothing less than spectacular. We were already huge fans of sparkle guitars here, so when Lee called to tell me about this purchase, I could hear the excitement in his voice. I think that's because, like Fred Stuart, we still love looking at, playing and just being around guitars. Obviously, the passion is still there, flowing through the veins and in this day and age, that ain't such a bad thing at all...
