Description

If I were a singer/song writer working the clubs for my livelihood, this might be the guitar I would take with me each night. Offered is this lovely old Froggy Bottom Model K Koa built back in 1997.

The K model is a full size instrument with a body that is 16" wide at the lower bout, 20" long and 4-1/4" deep. It has a 25.5" scale length, 2-3/16" string spacing and a 1-23/32" bone nut. It has a Mahogany neck with a sleek C shape. It has a straight grain Adirondack Spruce top; back and sides made of highly figured Koa; Maple body binding; mulit-color rope style rosette and backstrip; a black Ebony fret board with Abalone dot inlays; a black Ebony belly bridge; and gold Waverly tuners.

If you need a guitar with significant presence, but one that can also sound "intimate" then this is the guitar for you. It has a voice that can be huge and lush when flat picked or delicate and succinct when played with your fingers. That unique Froggy "chime" is quite evident. Please check out the brief sound sample provided.

This guitar plays with great ease and is currently set up with Elixir Phosphor Bronze light gauge strings and12th fret string heights of 5/54" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side with just a touch of neck relief. Lots of saddle remains.

For live play, this guitar is equipped with a superb K&K Trinity stereo pickup system. This system includes an external pre-amp with separate controls for each pickup when used with the supplied stereo cable. You can also forego the pre-amp and cable and just plug-in for mono output. It is a lovely sounding but quite simple system with minimal impact on the guitar's interior.

This beautiful old Froggy is in superb condition given it's age, but it does show a few "war wounds" which I have shown in the included photos; a slightly rough area near the sound hole and a few shallow impressions on the back of the guitar. The frets remain in great condition. It comes in it's original AVS/TKL case which also remains in very good condition.

Michael Millard et al don't make a K Standard with Koa any longer, so to get something similar to this guitar today would cost you well over $10K plus another $300 or so for the K&K. Get this well-preserved and superb sounding and playing K for thousands of dollars less. A fabulous Froggy indeed!
