This Gibson Custom Mike McCready '59 Les Paul yields the robust sustain you need for hot liquid solos and massive power chords. What's Gibson's secret? A major part of the Les Paul's tonewood recipe is the fusion of a maple top on a mahogany body. This combination is largely responsible for the legendary Les Paul sound.
Custom Bucker pickups deliver vintage PAF toneGibson Custom paid just as much attention to this Gibson Custom Mike McCready '59 Les Paul's electronics as they did to its aesthetics. Mike McCready's 1959 Les Paul - a brief historyMike McCready's 1959 Les Paul was originally purchased by Jim Anderson of Van Morrison's band, Them, sometime between 1967 and 1969. In the late 1990s, after Jim had retired, he sold the guitar to a music store owner named Danny Mangold near Seattle, Washington. Danny was an acquaintance of Mike's and knew that he had been searching for an original '59 Les Paul. Mike took a fast liking to the instrument, even before he learned about its history. "I picked it up, played for a few seconds and said, 'Yeah, this is the one,'" says Mike. "It just felt right in my hands. I've used it on four or five albums since and take it on every tour." Now, thanks to this Gibson Custom Mike McCready '59 Les Paul, you can have your own vintage '59. Wrapping your hand around this guitar feels almost like playing the original.
