Summary: We are lucky enough to have an original 1961 Gibson Les Paul SG in the shop right now, and this ’61 reissue sounds and play remarkably similar to its ancestor. Gibson introduced the Gibson SG '61 Reissue electric guitar to pay homage to their legendary 1961 SG Standard. Sporting that classic deep double-cutaway and beveled edge carved into an all-mahogany body, the '61 Reissue looks and feels like its vintage counterpart. Gibson included two highly accurate PAF-style humbuckers in the redesign. For those looking for a great slice of vintage Gibson without paying exorbitant prices, check out the Gibson SG '61 reissue. Ships in its original hardshell case.
Body: The body is one solid piece of mahogany with a 5- ply b/w/b pickguard and cherry nitrocellulose lacquer finish.
Neck: It has a 1960’s slim taper mahogany neck with a bound Indian rosewood fretboard with Cellulose Nitrate Trapezoid inlays, 22 medium jumbo frets, nylon nut, 1.687” nut width, 24.75” scale length, Gibson Deluxe tuners with emerald keystone buttons and a 12” fretboard radius.
Pickups/Hardware: The neck and bridge pickup are Gibson Custombucker Alnico III (Unpotted) humbuckers and there is a 3 way toggle with 2 volumes and 2 tones. It features CTS 500K audio taper potentiometers with Black Beauty Capacitors, nickel hardware, lightweight aluminum stop-bar and ABR-1 tune-o-matic.
Cosmetics: This SG is in great shape overall but does show signs of playwear on the body. There are pick scratches on the top, a few minor nicks and dings here and there and some buckle rash on the back. The frets are in fantastic shape and have no gouges in them. There are some slight hairline cracks around the binding by the fret ends.
Playability: This guitar plays extremely well and compares very closely with the original. We are lucky enough to have the original 1961 Les Paul SG in the shop right now and they sounds and play remarkably similar. The action is has been set low by our in-house luthier and strung-up with a new set of 10’s. This is easily my favorite SG in the shop right now.
