Description

We love custom-ordered, one-off guitars, and this 1967 Gibson Barney Kessel Custom in Sunburst has us drooling! This model was a bit different from most of Gibson’s offerings at the time, with a scale length customarily seen on Fender guitars (25-½”). This definitely gives a different sound and feel while playing. This custom order had several small requests, which we know precisely since the original owner’s order sheet is in the case! These are the features that were custom ordered as they are listed on the original order sheet: an ebony fretboard, the neck joins the body at the 17th fret instead of the 14th, Master Volume and toggle switch, Tal Farlow style custom hand bound tortoiseshell pickguard, the body is 2-1/4” thin (rather than the standard 3″), Stereo and Vari-tone controls, deluxe chrome Bigsby vibrola, and a standby switch. A custom name engraved truss rod cover was also ordered with this guitar, but we assume the original owner kept this because it is not in the case. Clearly, the original owner wanted as many tonal combinations as possible in one guitar, and they took fantastic care of it too! This guitar is completely original and is a beautiful one-of-a-kind example!
