A 1987 Pearlescent White Gibson Bass IV
1987 Gibson Bass IV
This 'Pearlescent White' 1987 Gibson Bass IV weighs just 8.10 lbs., and has a 13 1/4 inch wide and 1 1/2 inch deep mahogany body. Fixed mahogany neck with a nut width of 1 11/16 inches, a Gibson 'long' scale-length of 34.00 inches, and a wonderful medium-to-thick profile. Ebony fretboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and offset inlaid pearl dot position markers (double at 12th fret). Black laminated headstock with inlaid pearloid "Gibson IV" and 'bell-shaped' black over white plastic truss-rod cover secured by two screws. Two-per-side, individual Gibson bass tuners with black anodized 'key' shaped buttons. Serial number “80287587” and "Made in USA" impressed into the back of the headstock. Two 'Thunderbird' humbucking pickups with black anodized metal covers and outputs of 7.70k and 7.65k. Three controls (two volume, one tone). Black anodized control knobs with cross-hatch sides and domed tops. The potentiometers are all stamped "137 8650" (CTS, December 1986). Specific combination black anodized bridge/tailpiece with individually adjustable saddles, secured by three screws All hardware black anodized. There are a few very small marks/indentations on the top and a few even smaller marks on the sides. Housed in the original Gibson four-latch, shaped black hardshell case with blue plush lining (9.00). This is a great sounding bass - the two Thunderbird pickups give this bass a real 'growl'. BUT - there is a bow in the neck which causes the action to be somewhat higher that we like - approximately 1/6 inch at the 12th fret. We dot not believe that this can be improved without removing the fretboard and replacing the truss-rod. SO - we are pricing this unusual bass at a very reasonable $1,100 - for a player that likes the action a little high - this bass is perfect. (#2141)
