1956 Gibson CF-100

An incredible sounding Gibson CF-100 with tons of vintage character and an eye-grabbing Sunburst aesthetic featuring a solid Spruce top, Mahogany body/neck, and a Rosewood fingerboard. A great player with a full round "C" profile and well preserved with moderate playwear, and typical dings and scratches for a guitar this age. Lightweight at 3lbs 9.6oz and sounds amazing producing a lush mid-range character with a dry, woody dynamic response and tight low end. A great example of a CF-100! Includes chip case.

"If you’re of the opinion that a Florentine cutaway looks strange on a '50s acoustic guitar, I may be inclined to agree with you. Unsurprisingly, then, that this model is quite famously the first-ever flat top to feature a cutaway, first released in 1950. One of the first new models of Gibson’s “McCarty era,” the CF-100 paved the way for a slew of new and radical designs that would define the mid-century American guitar, both acoustic and electric. While a distinctive model, Gibson didn’t exactly break the mold when designing the CF. As the keen-eyed observer may notice, the body shape is identical to the LG models of the era, excluding the cutaway, of course. The addition of Gibson’s iconic “trapezoid” inlays to the fretboard completed the list of this model’s new features, making the CF a close tonal relative to its LG cousins. The same spruce, mahogany, scalloped braces, and Brazilian rosewood appointments are exactly what we’ve come to expect from a golden era Gibson.

This guitar came to us in virtually untouched condition but required some maintenance to get things up to speed. Several brace ends required careful regluing, as is so common on mid-century Gibsons. The original tuner tips had also crumbled to dust and required replacement. One small impact near the tail block was stabilized and repaired, but the guitar is otherwise exactly how it left the factory. Over the years, these CF models have garnered a huge following in Japan, and thus a significant number of these already-rare models have found their way abroad.
