Description

We are extremely selective about the Les Paul reissues we invest in for our inventory. There are so many available at any given time, we take the time to choose examples that we feel are particularly nice. The guitar offered here is a very special example indeed; Collector's Choice #39 1959 Les Paul "Minnesota Burst" number 008 built in 2016.

The real '59 Les Paul guitar upon which this Collector's Choice model was based, number 9-1105, is currently owned by UK-based collector Andrew Raymond. It is recognized as being perhaps the best-preserved of the original 1959 LP's known to exist.  Called "Minnesota Burst," it also has a particularly fine flame top that many consider the most vibrant of the original guitars still remaining.

As special as Gibson Collector's Choice guitars are, #39 is particularly special.  As noted above, the original upon which it is based has a particularly high quality top that is difficult for the Gibson folks to source. As a result, very few of these "Minnesota Burst" guitars were built.

Further, #39 is one of a limited number of Collector's Choice models that were built to Gibson's True Historic specifications, with assembly methods and a wet, hand-sanded finish which are true to the originals.

CC#39 also receives high-quality aging, to the exacting specifications of the original 9-1105 upon which it is based are. Even the Lifton-style reissue case is authentically aged by Gibson for this very special Collector's Choice model. True Historic specs and factory aging - all said, CC#39 is about as close to a real '59 LP as you can buy from Gibson.

Other vital specifications for this guitar include a C-shaped neck that is historically-accurate with moderate shoulders and depth measurements of .900" at the first fret and 1.00" at the twelfth. This model gets pickups that have been wound to replicate the tone of the originals, including an 8.0K, Alnico III Burst Bucker in the neck position and an 8.5K, Alnico V Custom Bucker in the bridge position.  And of critical importance to many players, this guitar weighs just 8 pounds, 2.7 ounces (8.17 pounds) with the plastic control cavity cover in place, a weight that puts this guitar among the lightest, non-weight-relieved Les Paul Reissues we have ever come across.

This guitar plays and sounds as good as it looks.  The tone has been tuned by the Custom Shop to sound like the original guitar.  Listen to the provided sound sample and we think you will agree, this guitar has the TONE - lots of fat, woody LP character. The setup is superb too; low and buzz free with a new set of Elixir Nano .10's installed.

This guitar, while aged at the factory, has seen little if any play time. The frets are flawless.  It comes in it's factory-aged Lifton-style reissue case with the certificate of authenticity and all of the other paperwork.

Dealers get $10.5K for this extremely limited production model (approximately 50 guitars we are told), but this nearly unplayed 2016 example can be yours for $3K less.  Get yourself one of the finest (and one of the lightest in weight) Les Paul Reissues that the Gibson Custom Shop has ever produced.  Make this CC#39 yours today!
