Description

A mid 1950's Gibson Korina double-neck console steel in excellent condition. Twice the size of a lap steel but with no pedals to affect the pitch, the console steel is truly in a category all its own. A fixture in country music of the late 40's and early 50's, you can hear the distinctive sound of the console steel played in Hank William's recordings by Don Helms.

Built by Gibson in Kalamazoo from 1952 to 1957, the Consolette afforded the lap steel player double the options with its two eight string necks. We've set the instrument up with necks tuned to C6 and E9 respectively.

With the exception of its replaced tuner buttons and switch tip, the Consolette is in near perfect condition and otherwise completely original. It's a two-owner steel, and has clearly been very well cared for over the years. You'll find the steel's original leg-set in the case, as well. Korina body with sunburst finish, P-90 style 8 pole pickups, volume and tone, and three-way switch.

With original case
